Hi, I’m Gabi Nyiri.

I created a personal development system made especially for dog people, Always Be a Dog Person, and a community that inspires dog people to bring out their best in every area of their lives.

I’m a personal development professional and a dog person. In reverse order, actually: I became a dog person and an agility handler first, then a psychologist, an economist, a trainer and an internationally accredited coach.

My story

It all started like this…

1995

Pick, my miniature poodle, and I drop into the world of agility.

In 1995, my miniature poodle Picka and I dropped into the world of agility. Alongside competing, I became an agility instructor in 1997 as a member of the first Hunnia Agility Club training year. Over the following years I taught hobby agility handlers, and a few competitors came out of my hands too. I have led my current hobby group at the Kutyaközpont (Dog Center) since 2012.

Meanwhile, from 2001, I made my way toward becoming a personal development professional. One step led to the next, and for the first ten years it was about becoming the best corporate HR person I could be. As a psychologist I learned to understand organizations, and as an economist the business world. Then, around 2009, the financial crisis left me without a training budget at my workplace, so I delivered my first in-house corporate training myself. In fact, I originally went to coach training because of a corporate project.

From 2015, personal development became my main occupation, and I started working as a trainer, coach and organizational development expert. That is when I earned my first international coaching certification, hence the lovely phrase “internationally accredited coach”.

Yes, for quite a while the two worlds, dog life and personal development, lived separate lives.

So separate, in fact, that on the first day of my trainer course someone asked how much experience I had teaching groups. I immediately answered: not much. A little later I corrected myself. Actually, hundreds of hours, I had just gained them on the agility field…

The insight

Then I noticed something…

The threads connected. They just needed to be untangled.

I heard many dog people talk about how they love doing dog things, how they soar there, and how they try to bring out their best in other areas of life too. I noticed that the same themes often came up in agility training and in the training room, during corporate development programs.

As a first step, I began to look consciously for ways the attitude and skills we pick up as dog people can be successfully extended to other areas of life. That is how the Coaching on Two Legs and Six Legs blog was born in 2015, and how the community set out on its way.

Many people found the topic interesting, in the profession and beyond. You may have heard me at the ICF Hungarian Chapter Coaching Conference and at HR Fest Online, and my writing regularly appeared on the front page of Index’s Blog.hu.

The system

But that wasn’t good enough!

Then I felt that the ideas and inspiration from the blog did not give dog people enough help to bring out their best in other areas of their lives. So I created a personal development system made especially for dog people, one that helps them flourish through the very thing they love so much about life with dogs.

As a result of the work we do together in the Always Be a Dog Person system, success spreads across different areas of life: personal wellbeing, relationships, team leadership, professional progress and business connections. And this progress does not come from learning something brand new. It comes from my students and clients starting to consciously use what already works well somewhere else, yes, in dog life for example.

The content found its form too. In 2020 I launched the Always Be a Dog Person Club, where you can work on yourself, your awareness and your actions together with other dog people who are just as committed to their growth.
